void for mac
The Mac half of Void: a small menu bar app that keeps the voidd helper running, pairs your iPhone with a QR code and updates itself.
macOS 26 or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon. Signed by Loopware LLC and notarized by Apple.
install
- Open
Void.dmgand drag Void to Applications. - Open Void from Applications. It lives in the menu bar, as the ›. mark, and starts the helper.
- Follow its steps: what Void is, Claude Code's hooks (it asks first), your terminal, and pairing.
- On your iPhone, open Void, choose pair my Mac and scan the QR code. The code works once and expires after five minutes; the menu makes a new one at any time.
No Tailscale, no account and no port to open: your phone and your Mac meet through Void's relay, encrypted end to end, so the relay cannot read what passes through it.
your terminal
Watch works with Claude Code and Codex in the terminal you already use: Terminal, iTerm, Ghostty, VS Code. You see state and conversations and get alerts, and you answer prompts on your Mac.
Drive adds the live terminal, typing and answering from your phone. It works through tmux in any terminal app, or through kitty. Void's setup checks what you have; without tmux it is two lines:
brew install tmux
tmux new -A -s work
Then start your agent inside that tmux session. kitty works too, with socket-only remote control on (allow_remote_control socket-only and listen_on unix:/tmp/kitty-void in kitty.conf). Void never starts, quits or restarts your terminal.
claude code's hooks
Void hears from Claude Code through hooks in ~/.claude/settings.json: when a session starts, stops or needs you. Void asks before adding them, shows you the exact change, and keeps your file as settings.json.before-void. The hooks report; they never answer a prompt. Set up… in the menu takes them out again.
what the helper does and does not do
- It runs as you, never as root, and listens on
127.0.0.1only. - Each phone has its own key. The Mac keeps only a hash of it, so a copy of the Mac's data cannot be used to log in.
- Its logs never contain keys, pairing codes, screens or transcripts. Open log in the menu shows them.
- Updates come from this site, and Void checks each one against its own signing key before it installs it.
when you want it off
Turn Void off in the menu stops the helper and keeps it off until you turn it on again. To remove Void, turn it off, then move it to the Trash. Unpair a phone from the phone, in Settings: the Mac forgets it.
Set up voidd earlier with the install script? Void sees it, uses it as it is, and does not start a second one.
